Career History

In Malaysia, the British High Commissioner represents the British Government in its relations with the Malaysian Government.

The High Commissioner's main tasks are to present and explain British policies to the Malaysian Government and to the broader Malaysian public, and to report and explain Malaysian policies and views to the British Government in London.

The present High Commissioner is Boyd McCleary CVO, who has been in Kuala Lumpur since July 2006. Boyd has served previously in Germany (twice), Korea, Turkey and Canada.  During stints in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, he has had responsibility for property matters and for the implementation of a major IT programme.

Boyd is married to Jenny, and has three daughters, two of whom are in Kuala Lumpur.  His interests include reading, trekking in the jungle, tennis and golf.
