Defence
An Army Colonel, heads the section and is assisted by a serving WarrantOfficer (class 2), a PA and a Clerk both locally employed British civilians.
The areas where the Defence Section may become involved can be broadly set out under three main headings.
Security Co-operation with Malaysia
The UK enjoys strong links with the Malaysian Military and Ministry of Defence at all levels. Our role is to support:
- High level visits to the UK and reciprocal visits to Malaysia incorporating all aspects of Defence and security policy issues.
- Membership of the long-standing Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA). Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand are the other FPDA member nations.

- Securing diplomatic clearances for visiting UK military aircraft and ships.
- A wide range of training courses offered to all services of the Malaysian Military in the highly respected training colleges of the UK
- Provision of military support
Commonwealth War Graves
There are over 4500 Commonwealth Graves in Malaysia dating mainly from the First Emergency and Confrontation. These are spread across all of Peninsular Malaysia including Cheras Road Cemetery, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Taiping and Batu Gajah, continuing through to Penang and East Malaysia encompassing Sandakan in Sabah and Labuan.

Our role is to:
- Assist with the organisation of visits for VIP's
- Organise, assist and attend a number of remembrance services. Throughout the year memorials are held at many of the above mentioned cemeteries. For further details please visit here.
- Retain a set of registers giving details of all Commonwealth burials in Malaysia
Veterans Memorial and Remembrance Services
Our role is:
- Attendance and organisation of remembrance services and memorials
The Defence Section in conjunction with the British High Commission organises the yearly Remembrance Service at Tugu Negara ( The National Monument)
Remembrance service at Tugu Negara Kuala Lumpur.
